Carme Jiménez is a respected Catalan writer, a philologist who has specialised in linguistics. She is exceptionally knowledgeable about her subject. This work presents some new research hypotheses, which show that Romance languages share a high percentage of phonetic, lexical, morphosyntactic and semantic characteristics, showing a close kinship to a linguistic typology that relates them to each other but distances them from Latin. But her well documented research has not been without its controversies. She has faced an academic onslaught from those who oppose her theory as well as for her research on the Iberian language.
